Pontoon Boat Guide - Your Guide to On-Water Fun!

Nylon Playpens That Work on Your Pontoon Helpful pontooning hints from the staff of Pontoon Boat Guide.

Some prospective boaters might think they have to put off their boating dreams for a few years because they have small children. Nothing could be further from the truth — just because you have little ones in the family doesn't mean you have to miss out on the pontoon boat lifestyle and all that fun on the water. If you have infants who need to nap during the day or young toddlers who are likely to dive headlong into non-baby-proofed gear, simply bring along a sturdy playpen. With their flat and spacious decks, pontoon boats easily accommodate playpens... it's as easy as “pack n’ play!”

Please keep in mind three important tips when using playpens on board:

  1. Never put a child in a playpen while the boat is under way. The playpen is only for use while the boat is stationary — at a dock, at anchor or nosed securely onto a beach.
  2. If your playpen has wheels, lock the brakes before placing your child inside.

Make sure the playpen is shaded by the pontoon’s Bimini top or appropriately named “playpen cover.” It’s very important to protect your child’s sensitive skin from the sun. (See Important Skin- and Eye-Care Considerations below).
